General Information

SFASU offers an outstanding and comprehensive accounting program. Since 1942, almost 3,000 degrees with a major in accounting have been awarded. Graduates have gone on to successful careers in public accounting, industry, government, and education.

Accounting degree programs cover concepts of financial accounting, managerial accounting, and information systems for accounting and management. Students also gain critical knowledge in the areas of auditing and taxations. Other course options include not-for-profit/governmental, and oil and gas accounting.

Two degree programs in accounting are offered: the BBA in accounting (4-year program) and the integrated BBA/MPA (5 -year program):

  • BBA Accounting (4-year program)
The 4-year Bachelor of Business Administration accounting program is available for those students who do not wish to acquire a CPA license. This program alone does not provide all the educational requirements for those interested in sitting for the CPA exam after August, 1997.

    The program includes the following...

    • 61 hours of general undergraduate studies
    • 39 hours of general undergraduate business courses
    • 30 hours of undergraduate accounting courses

... for a total of 130 hours of coursework.

  • BBA/MPA (5-year program)
The 5-year programs leads to a Master of Professional Accountancy degree for those students who wish to pursue a career as a CPA. This program is one of only six fully integrated five year programs in the State of Texas. It contains 156 hours of course credit and was designed to meet the requirements of the Public Accountancy Act of 1991. A BBA degree is awarded simultaneously with the MPA.
