Mission of the Society
The mission of Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and personal and professional excellence in the practice of the business.
History of Beta Gamma Sigma
Beta Gamma Sigma was founded as a national organization in 1913. The first national honor society in business was a merger of three separate societies established to honor academic achievement in business at the University of Wisconsin, University of Illinois and the University of California. Beta Gamma Sigma is now poised to enter the 21st century knowing that its membership of 400,000 comprises the brightest and best of business leaders.

Membership Requirements
Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in an undergraduate or master's program at a school accredited by AACSB-The International Association for Management Education. Of the 1,400 institutions with degree programs in business, less than 350 are accredited by AACSB and have chapters of Beta Gamma Sigma.
Undergraduate/Master's Requirements
To be eligible for membership, the academic ranking of those being considered must place them in the upper 10 percent of the junior class, upper 10 percent of the senior class, or upper 20 percent of the graduating master's class. Local chapters may require higher standards. While almost 300,000 students receive bachelor's or master's degrees in business each year, only about 16,000 students are elected to membership in Beta Gamma Sigma.
At SFASU students are notified of Beta Gamma Sigma eligibility during the spring semester. Notification is made by tapping the students in class and mailing letters. The 2006 Induction Ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, April 19.
