Course Number and Title: Finance 514 - Advanced Financial Management

Catalog Description: Employment of the case method to examine financial theories and concepts in practical situations and to develop analytical skills and judgment ability in solving financial problems of business firms. Prerequisite: FIN 504 or consent of Graduate Adviser.

Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to recognize and solve basic financial problems by extending the conceptual and analytical analysis guiding the investment, financing and dividend decisions of the firm. The case approach used in this course should enhance the student’s ability to solve problems as part of a team by using critical thinking and data analysis. The student will employ written skills in the preparation of final reports and oral communication skills in the presentation of the report to the class.

Current Textbook: Financial Management Theory and Practice, 8th edition by Eugene F. Brigham and Louis C. Gapenski.

Evaluation: Students are evaluated on the basis of at least two written exams and financial case analysis. The exams include essay questions, short answer questions, and analytical problems. The cases require computer-based analysis, a written report, and at least one oral presentation of the case to the class.
