Current Contest Standings

Contest Rules:

  1. Teams will consist of three to four members.
  2. Each team member must be currently enrolled at SFA.
  3. Skill level will be divided into two categories, novice and expert. Problem sets consist of ten problems of varying difficulty. Any team with a member that has completed CSC 241 (or transfer equivalent) with a C or better will be classified as an expert team.
  4.  All programs must be written in C, C++ or Java .  Programs may be written using an IDE environment, but all programs must be able to compile, link and execute on the Unix system.
  5. Any desired reference materials may be brought to the contest. This includes math books, computer books, etc.
  6. Solutions must be generalized programming algorithms that will work for valid problem data. Solutions judged to be hard-coded will be disqualified.
  7. In each level, the team with the most problems solved will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, the team with the lowest sum of completion times will be declared the winner. Each incorrect job submitted to be judged will add ten minutes to the teams completion time for that problem. Be sure your solution is correct before submitting.
  8. The contest will begin when all teams have received problem sets. Runs that are not submitted within the programming period will be disqualified.
  9. Programs are limited to an execution time of three CPU minutes. Programs executing longer than three minutes will be ruled incorrect and will be terminated by the judges.
  10. Submit only the source code.  Executable files will not be accepted.
  11. Programs submitted for judging that are correct will be retained for validation of final results. Only runs exactly meeting the problem requirements will be accepted as a correct judged run.
  12. Communication with the judges will be limited to problem interpretation and submission problems. Judges will not point out errors to any team member.
  13. Do NOT change workstations without a judges permission AND assistance. You may NOT use any workstations other than the ones assigned to your team.
  14. Should system failure of any kind cause an excessive delay, the contest may be called by the judges with the standing of the teams at that time becoming final.
  15. The decision of the judges is final.

from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
in the McGee Lab.

Contestants should plan to arrive no later than 8:00 a.m. to sign in and complete a dry run.
