Catalog Description: Application of theories of learning and instructional development to the education and training of employees in the organizational environment.

Course Objective: The major course objective is to develop an appreciation, knowledge, and use of interactive training methods. This is accomplished through the study of the training and development field, trainer roles, needs assessment, learning theories and objectives, evaluation, training techniques, and career management.

Course Prerequisite: Junior standing or permission of the instructor.

Course Policies and Procedures:

1. Attendance Class attendance and participation is expected of students. You should plan to attend every class. Points are awarded for class attendance. During the semester, the instructor will take attendance which may be taken at ANY point during the class period. If you are present when attendance is taken, you will earn 5 points for class participation. If you are absent at the time attendance is taken, you will earn 0 points. A total of 100 points will be possible. Three tardies equals one absence

2. Make-up Policy: No assignment will be accepted after the assigned class period for completion. Out-of-class writing assignments turned in LATE will receive NO CREDIT. Credit for LATE major assignments will be determined by prior conference with the instructor. If you are on school business, arrangements should be made before the missed class. Tests and in-class writings MAY NOT BE COMPLETED at times other than the scheduled times. Should a serious illness (doctor appointments or visits to campus health center are NOT considered a serious illness), death in the immediate family, or official school business prevent you from completing a test or in-class writing, contact your instructor. She may be able to prepare a different assignment as a substitute. You must contact her within ONE CLASS DAY of the absence in order to be allowed a different assignment.

3. Plagiarism: Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Plagiarism is defined as the copying of information from another source, such as another student, a magazine article, published text, the Internet, etc. No credit will be given to any assignment where plagiarism exists.

4. Class Assignments: Unless specified, all written work is to be keyboarded. Proofread your material before submitting it. All written assignments should include your name, title of assignment, course number, title and section, instructor's name and the date. Regular homework assignments/exercises are given for each chapter. If you are absent from a class, it is your responsibility to check with the instructor for the assignment prior to the next class period so that you may complete the homework on time and receive full credit. Specific instructions will be given for each individual oral presentation assignment, which includes Training I and II. A training module will be prepared and presented by teams of 3 students. Each team member will receive the same credit for the final presentation. If there are any major problems, the whole team should schedule a conference with the instructor at the earliest possible date.
