Office Hours:

Class Hours: 5:00-6:15 every Tuesday and pre-announced Thursdays

Prerequisite: 18 hours of Computer Science with at least six hours advanced, and Chair approval

Required Texts: None

Examinations:

Operating procedures, mid-term, and final. There are no exemptions from the final. All examinations may be comprehensive. Final exam is scheduled Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm.

Examination Policy:

Class examinations are an important part of the course work upon which 30% of the course grade depends. There are NO make-up exams! Class exams will be announced two weeks prior to the exam (except the Operating procedures exam). If you have a conflict with another university event, you must contact me well in advance of the examination. In case of extreme emergency, contact me before the scheduled exam. Failure to do so will result in an exam grade of zero. A grade of zero will be assigned for any missed unannounced quizzes.

Assignments:

There will be occasional homework assignments and unannounced quizzes related to lecture topics. Each student will be expected to work in the McGee Computing Laboratory as a laboratory assistant 6 hours per week. The laboratory assistants are responsible for the operation of the lab. The performance grade will be based on your performance as a laboratory assistant.

Project:

A term project will be required. It is composed of both oral and written components. Both components must be successfully completed in order to earn a grade of "B" or better in the course. Details will be given in class.

Attendance:

Class roll will be taken. Tardiness is unacceptable. Class and lab attendance will be considered in determining the final grade. Failure to attend assigned laboratory hours can result in a grade of "F" in the course. In general, two or more absences will results in a reduced performance grade.

Grade Composition:

Performance 50%, Exams 30%, Project 15%, Homework, Quizzes, and Lecture Attendance 5%.

Cheating Policy:

If, in my judgment, a student cheats on an examination, a grade of zero will be assigned as the examination grade and a minimum of one (1) letter grade will be lost in the course grade. A course grade of F may be assigned depending on the situation. A student found cheating on an examination may not drop the course.

Computing Laboratory Usage:

Students who utilize equipment in university computing laboratories are expected to read and abide by all posted policies for the laboratories. Please note that no children are permitted in university computing laboratories.

Special Accommodation Requests:

Students with special accommodation requests have the responsibility to immediately initiate a meeting with the instructor to discuss how the special accommodations will be provided. Students who are aware of these special needs at the beginning of the semester must inform the instructor in person before the twelfth class day about any class activity which will require special accommodations.

Mid-Term is March 5th, 2008 - the last day to drop the class is March 19th, 2008
