Catalog Description: Purchasing function and its integration as a subsystem into material planning, procurement, movement, and storage activities within an organization. Includes purchasing management, purchasing policy and procedures, and material and logistic system components.
Prerequisite: Junior standing
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the basic concepts of purchasing and materials management. This will include the process and procedures involved in purchasing and materials planning, procurement, and movement. Students should be able to research vendor, product, and market information. Students should be able to integrate knowledge to analyze and solve purchasing related problems.

Evaluation: Student performance will be measured through a combination of examinations, class assignments, and oral presentation. Sufficient examinations should be given during a semester to provide a sound basis for the evaluation of student performance, with a minimum of a mid-term and a final. Exams should contain a combination of objective and short answer or essay questions. Other types of evaluation may be employed at the discretion of the professor.
