Note: This "standard" course syllabus is only a guide. Actual requirements for a particular course and section of this course are described in the course section syllabus, which should be obtained from the course instructor at the beginning of the respective semester. Requirements listed herein are subject to change without notice.
Catalog Description: - 1-3 semester hours. Individual instruction in management.
Prerequisites: Senior standing, 15 hours of management, and approval of supervising instructor and department chair.
Course Purpose: A special problems course awards college credit for individual instruction as opposed to the usual classroom environment.
Course Objective: To provide instruction on a topic area either not offered as a course or that will not be offered within a time frame reasonable for the student's graduation.
Course Credit: A student meeting the prerequisites listed above may receive credit for up to 3 hours of MGT 475. Credit may be awarded for 1, 2, or 3 semester hours depending on the topic and the total work involved. As a guideline, 3 hours credit requires approximately the same work load as an organized 3-hour management course numbered 400 or above. Final determination on hours of credit will be made jointly by the supervising instructor and the Assistant Department Chair.
Current Textbook: At the discretion of the supervising instructor.
Evaluation: Student evaluation is at the discretion of the Assistant Department Chair and the supervising instructor. At the completion of the course, the supervising instructor will provide copies of the work completed to the Assistant Department Chair. In addition, the supervising instructor will assign a grade and report it to the Assistant Department Chair. The Assistant Department Chair will report the grade to the Registrar's Office for entry on the student's transcript.
Application Procedure: A student desiring to register for MGT 475 must provide the following information (as a package) to the Assistant Department Chair, who will determine approval or disapproval (Note: There are no exceptions to these requirements!):
1. A letter formally requesting to register for the course. Statements of what will be learned and the desired number of hours of credit are required.
2. A current transcript showing satisfactory completion of at least 15 hours of Management.
3. A statement from a faculty member in the appropriate discipline indicating agreement to supervise the course. A detailed course description is not required but is strongly recommended to avoid misunderstanding.
