MGT 485 - ENTREPRENEURSHIP : Opportunity Assessment

Catalog Description: - An extension and application of the skills and knowledge developed in MGT 390, including preparation of a feasibility study for a new or substantially changed business.

Prerequisites: MGT 390 or consent of instructor.

Course Objectives: Students will: 1) trace the evolution of entrepreneurship theory from early scholars to current thought; 2) distinguish the contributions entrepreneurs have made to economics throughout history; 3) differentuiate studied characteristics of the entrepreneur and the distinctions made between such individuals and the typical small business owner; 4) identify the contributions made by entrepreneurs within the context of traditional organizations; and 5) recognize the concept of intrapreneurship and the relationship of this concept and the idea of the change agent within well-run organizations.

Current Textbook: Jennings, D. F. Multiple Perspectives of Entrepreneurship: Text, Readings, and Cases, current edition. (Cincinnati, OH: South-Western Publishing Company).

Evaluation: Sufficient examinations will be given during a semester to provide a sound basis for the evaluation of student performance. Examinations should contain a mixture of objective questions and problems from text and lecture materials that the instructor feels are relevant. The minimum number of exams will be a mid-term and a final. Other types of evaluation may be used at the instructor's discretion.
