Overview

This document addresses the procedures for making recommendations in regard to resources in support of instruction. Such resources include but are not limited to library and computer facilities, equipment, space, and staff.

Five-Year Review

A formal comprehensive review of the college's instructional resources should be conducted at least once every five years. The review will be initiated by the Dean of the College of Business, who will assign the task to an appropriate committee. The committee should:

Annual Instructional Capital Budget

The college is normally allocated funds each year to aid in the purchase of instructional capital, i.e., capital equipment to be used in support of instruction (classroom and office equipment, computers, software, etc.). Each spring, faculty are asked to report needed items to the respective department chair. Each department chair compiles a list of items needed by the department along with estimated costs and submits the list to the dean. The dean compiles a list for the college and submits it to the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA).

Depending on the funds available and the nature and amount of funds requested, the VPAA allocates a budget to each dean, usually early in the fall semester. Again depending on the funds available and the nature and amount of funds requested, the dean allocates a budget to each department chair. Each department chair can then use the allocated funds to make equipment acquisitions.

On-Going Review

Faculty may report instructional resource needs to the respective department chair at any time. Depending on the nature of the need and the departmental budget, the department chair may either act on the request or forward it for action by the appropriate office (dean, library, computer lab, etc.).

The dean may also designate a committee to supplement the University Library Committee in serving as a liaison between college faculty and the library. In addition, the University Library works directly with the faculty to ensure that the needs of both specific disciplines and individual faculty are addressed.
