MGT 472 Testable Cases


End-of-chapter cases are testable as follows.  In all cases, refer to the notes for the respective chapter for details:

Exam One:
Ch. 3, p. 118:  Will TV Succumb to the Internet?:  Issues associated with broadcast of TV programs over the Internet including competition between previously-separate industries.
Ch. 4, p. 157:  When Radiation Therapy Kills.  Illustrates how poor information systems and/or poor use of information systems can cost lives.

Exam Two:
Ch. 5, p. 203:  Salesforce.com:  enterprise software-sized customer relationship management (CRM) cloud computing systems.  Another example mentioned in the case (on p. 204):  Amazon's utility computing:  computer services offered by Amazon.com.
Ch. 6, p. 240:  Terror Watch List Database's Troubles:  difficulties in creating and maintaining the Terrorist Watch List database.
Ch. 8, p. 329:  Are We Ready for Cyberwarfare?:  discussion of warfare between countries carried out by hacking and other electronic attacks.  Impact of successful attacks and problems with the agencies responsible for cybersecurity are stated.
Ch. 15, p. 586:  WR Grace:  example of how a large global corporation with highly fragmented information systems replaced its core systems ("general ledger", i.e., financial accounting) with SAP.  Implementation and testing issues are also discussed.

Exam Three:
Ch. 9, p. 366:  Border States Industries:  experiences of a large and growing company with SAP.
Ch. 10, p. 410:  Amazon vs. Walmart:  competition for on-line sales between the two large retailers.
Ch. 3, p. 118 (includes concepts also relevant to Ch. 10):  Will TV Succumb to the Internet?  Illustrates "channel conflict."
Ch. 11, p. 448:  San Francisco Public Utilities Commission:  the impending retirement of a large number of "baby boomer" employees motivated the SFPUC to implement a knowledge management system.
Ch. 14, p. 556:  JetBlue and WestJet:  experiences of both companies with major system upgrades.
