E-Mail Tips for Dr. Fisher's Classes
Class communications in Dr. Fisher's classes will be sent to the
students' SFA e-mail addresses and/or myCourses e-mail addresses.
Students may send e-mail to the professor either directly or through
myCourses (direct e-mail to wfisher@sfasu.edu is checked more
frequently). Although students are permitted to have e-mail from
their SFA account forwarded to another e-mail address, do so at your own risk. More reliable communications are usually had by not forwarding your e-mail. Forwarding of e-mail from myCourses is not recommended, since it is not possible to reply to e-mail forwarded from myCourses.
Tips:
- the most reliable results are had by not
forwarding your e-mail
and by using mySFA to check
your
e-mail. See below for how to cancel forwarding.
- the second-best choice is to use mySFA to forward your
e-mail to
a reliable
account
that you check
regularly.
- if you wish to set up or cancel forwarding:
- go
to the mySFA login
screen and click the link applicable to your situation
- follow the directions to set up your account to
automatically
have your e-mail forwarded or to cancel forwarding as applicable.
- use your normal e-mail software or web site (SFA or
non-SFA as
applicable) to compose a test
message and send it to your
SFA student e-mail
address. Wait a few minutes, then check your
e-mail in the
normal manner (again, from your SFA or non-SFA account as
applicable). You should receive the test message.
Re-check your settings or get help if you don't get the message within
an hour or so (see below).
- check your e-mail frequently, no less often than the day
before every
class period.
- delete old messages to keep your mailbox from filling
up.
Take corrective action if you are out of space or nearly out of space.
- be especially careful if your e-mail service has a junk
mail or spam
filter:
- under "options," set your junk folder to be emptied only
after a delay. If you have it emptied immediately, you may
lose
important messages.
- make sure your junk mail filtering is not
set to
"exclusive." If you do, class messages may be sent to your
junk
mailbox.
- look at the contents of your junk folder periodically to
make sure that important messages haven't gotten put there by
mistake.
If any have, they can be moved to another folder. You should
also click the "This is not junk" button as applicable.
- if applicable, include Dr. Fisher's e-mail address
(wfisher@sfasu.edu) on your list of known correspondents.
- visit the course web page often. If an important
message has been
sent, there will usually be a notice there.
- still having trouble? Visit applicable links from
the login page of mySFA.
